Motoring Offences

The law governing road traffic offences in Ireland is found across a wide variety of legislative instruments, which are exhaustive, meticulous and have been heavily amended over the years. The governing legislation is known collectively as the Road Traffic Acts, and the primary piece of legislation is the Road Traffic Act 1961. Since April 2016 the Criminal Justice (Spent Convictions and Certain Disclosures) Act 2016 came into effect.
